Unique and Trendy Patterns for Your Luxury Vinyl Flooring

Share

Modern luxury vinyl floors continue to dominate the flooring market for their matchless durability and easy installation. With traditional glue down luxury vinyl plank and tile (LVT), homeowners and business owners can elevate their spaces in an effortless and low-maintenance way without sacrificing their design aesthetic. Rigid core waterproof vinyl floors are limited to a traditional stagger or brick pattern due the nature of the glueless locking profile. So for this article we’re focusing on the installation/design flexibility of traditional gluedown LVT.

One of the most popular reasons for choosing LVT is its ability to accurately mimic natural materials like wood or stone. Compared to most organic materials like traditional hardwood floors, LVT is easy to install, cost-effective, and requires very little maintenance to keep it looking great. LVT’s layered construction provides a durable product that’s built to withstand years of wear and use while maintaining much of its original beauty.

The appearance of your LVT isn’t necessarily the only style or design choice you need to make. Although many customers who install luxury vinyl tile or plank choose to follow the traditional approach of laying out their flooring in straight lines, that pattern isn’t your only option. Customized layouts and patterns of LVT flooring can set the tone and help define the natural flow in any room.

If you’re looking for an elegant and affordable way to add character to any room, LVT offers seemingly endless design possibilities.

What Types of Patterns Can You Create Using Luxury Vinyl Tile?

  1. Offset pattern (otherwise known as brick or running bond) is the most common tile pattern. The tiles are offset by half of the tile width.
  2. Diagonal pattern involves offsetting square tiles by a 45-degree angle as it is installed. This is typically done to give a space added dimension and perspective.
  3. Stagger pattern is intended to give the illusion that the seams between tiles are random. This is done by arranging tiles on alternating sides of a centerline. It is most ideal if you are using two to three color variations. Also known as an ashlar or random stagger pattern, this is the most often used pattern for installing planks.
  4. Herringbone pattern is a classic and visually stunning pattern created by placing two planks at a 90-degree angle. Though unique, this pattern can be more time-consuming, labor intensive and costly.
  5. Corridor pattern plays with horizontal and vertical tile placement for a colorful and eye-catching layout. You can mix browns and grays or dark and light colors for a fun, artistic pattern.
  6. Grid pattern highlights a more modern and contemporary flooring look. There is no offsetting or staggering of tiles but a consistent, universal pattern where all vertical and horizontal points align. Think of a parquet wood floor on a grand scale. This pattern is best for large rooms.
  7. Random pattern can instill a quirky and spontaneous personality into any room. Color and grain choices give installers the opportunity to create a versatile and sleek design.
  8. Soldier pattern is very similar to the grid pattern, but the tiles are placed vertically into a grid instead of horizontal.
  9. Basketweave pattern is a popular choice for rectangular tiles. This design adds movement and visual interest to a space, especially when more than one color is used.

What Are the Benefits of Installing Luxury Vinyl Tile?

Luxury vinyl flooring is a popular flooring choice for homes and businesses. Purchasers can easily and affordably implement dynamic and long-lasting designs that are capable of withstanding high-traffic environments. Not only is it often more affordable than natural flooring materials (i.e., wood, stone, or tile), but it also takes less time and expertise to install.
