METROFLOR'S IMPACT
WHAT WE'RE DOING
In order to have an immediate impact, we support REDD+ projects in partnership with Everland that protect forests and enhance the lives of their human inhabitants through the purchase of Verified Emission Reductions (VERs).
Déjà New, our benchmark commercially rated glue-down LVT, is now being offset to become our first Carbon Neutral Product.
Metroflor is helping to protect the REDD+ project of Southern Cardamom Rainforest in Cambodia. The Southern Cardamom is one of the last unfragmented rainforests remaining in Southeast Asia. It’s a biodiversity hotspot under relentless threat from illegal logging and poaching.
The Southern Cardamom Rainforest serves as the region's most important watershed, climate regulator and carbon sink (A carbon sink absorbs carbon dioxide and converts it to oxygen released into the atmosphere).
REDD+
The long-term goal of REDD+ projects is to address the actual and potential drivers of deforestation by delivering financial proceeds to forest stakeholders for their effective conservation efforts.
REDD+ currently protects 497,000 hectares of the Southern Cardamom Rainforest.
CARBON OFFSETS THROUGH DÉJÀ NEW
Through the use of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and based on sales, we have determined the total amount of embodied carbon generated by the sale of Déjà New products.
Based on these calculations, Metroflor has purchased the required amount of Verified Emission Reductions (VERs) to fully offset Déjà New's embodied carbon footprint.
The VERs will help fund the Southern Cardamon REDD+ project and, as examples, will be used to:
- Establish robust ranger programs to protect the area against illegal logging and poaching
- Provide incentives to conserve forests instead of selling it to loggers and developers
- Provide new economic opportunities to forest communities that are not reliant on forest products
Retired Verified Carbon Certificates:
In addition to our Déjà New Carbon Neutral endeavor, all Metroflor samples and Prevail accessories shipped within the Continental U.S. are sent via UPS Carbon Neutral as standard practice. A portion of the cost to ship UPS Carbon Neutral supports global projects that offset the carbon contribution of shipping.
Carbon neutral shipping of our product samples and accessories helps fight climate change and preserve natural resources. The UPS Carbon Neutral program reduces the carbon footprint for Metroflor and our customers.
