While Metroflor Engage Genesis is one of the most durable, scratch-resistant vinyl plank flooring options available, that certainly does not mean that it is impervious to becoming damaged. Perhaps your child really wanted to use the hot pink permanent marker on your beautiful Engage Genesis flooring. Hey, we get it! Accidents happen. In case you find yourself in a situation where you floor has hot pink permanent marker all over it, we have put together a step-by-step guide of how to perform a successful Metroflor Engage Genesis plank replacement.
Step-By-Step Guide To Metroflor Engage Genesis Plank Replacement
Regardless of the installation technology of your flooring, the Metroflor Engage Genesis plank replacement process is quick and simple.
Step 1: Remove The Damaged Plank
This is done by first drawing a line down the center of the plank. Next, you'll want to draw 45 degree angles from the corners of the plank to the center line - this should form a triangle at each end of the plank.
Then, using an extra plank as a gauge, set your saw blade to the proper depth to avoid cutting into the subfloor. Carefully cut along the center line of the plank and sweep or vacuum up debris.
Next, cut the diagonals. It's important to make you don't cut into or damage the adjacent planks! Once you have done this, remove the two center sections using a small chisel. Lift the first edge and carefully remove the triangles from each end.
Step 2: Prepare The Replacement Plank
Now that the damaged plank is out, it's time to prepare the replacement plank. First, you'll want to remove the tongue on the long side with a sharp utility knife - making sure that the tongue is completely removed.
Note: For Uniclic planks, you will also need to remove the tongue on the short side.
Next, remove the lock on the long and short sides. Using a sharp chisel, cut of the corner where the two edges meet. Now, you'll want to add a scant bead of Prevail™ 30-GS Adhesive to the exposed, grooved sides of all the flooring surrounding the repaired area.
Then, apply a scant bead of Prevail™ 30-GS Adhesive to the grooved sides of the replacement plank.
Tip: Before placing the glue, it's a good idea to practice inserting the plank!
Step 3: Insert The Replacement Plank
You'll want to align the cut corner first, then drop the replacement plank into position.
Now that the plank is in place, use the Prevail™ Tapping Block on the long and short sides to ease the replacement plank into place. Apply pressure to ensure that the adhesion is good.
Finally, remove any excess adhesive immediately by using a small amount of Acetone applied with a clean, white, lint-free cloth. Viola! Plank replacement completed.
